I am inviting you to support my efforts to present my work on nanotechnology at the 2011 International Symposium on Electronic Arts (2011 ISEA) in Istanbul (in exchange I would be more than happy to keep you updated on my travels to the conference and/or, later, on my work, if you should be interested, and to credit you on a special 2011 ISEA page on my website, if you choose to be named) for a presentation at this cutting edge conference. Described by another organization as "the most important and extensive non-profit association of the world to deal with the evolution of digital art and electronics," 2011 ISEA attracted over 2000 submissions for presentations. It was a thrill to have my paper on memristors (nanoelectronics), artificial synapses, and cognitive entanglement (Whose electric brain?) accepted.
I've tried a number of different ways to raise funds for this trip (unfortunately I cannot self-fund).
The reason I’m persisting is that I believe there are going to be massive changes as emerging technologies are integrated into our daily lives. The adoption of nanotechnology (my area of interest and expertise) has been described as similar to (or even more important than) the Industrial Revolution. Participating in this conference is part of my effort to raise international awareness about Canadian discussions regarding nanotechnology and, after the conference, to raise awareness in Canada about international discussions on the topic.
My presentation is scheduled for Sept. 19, 2011 so there isn't much time left. My brilliant presentation cohort includes a team of engineers from Brazil, an artist from Montréal, and the director of the SymboticA Lab. (at the University of Western Australia's Dept. of Anatomy), and me, an independent scholar and science writer/blogger. (You can visit me at my blog, www.frogheart.ca).
