Although I had heard many times before from her mother, that Georgia had a condition that caused her significant learning and intellectual disabilities, the first moment I saw her I forgot that and just saw what was a pretty and exotic-looking smiling young teenage girl.
But as soon as I spoke to Georgia it became quite clear to me that her difficulties were real and she would definitely need extra help and support with her development and life. Georgia has a genetic condition called Cri Du Chat Syndrome.
This condition is quite unusual- all the children who are born with it have the same genes missing, but some are severely affected and cannot even walk or talk while others are mildly affected and just develop slightly slower than normal. It is impossible to know how severely they will be affected when they are born, only time will tell. So while Georgia was a young baby her mother Robyn tried everything…every single thing she could find to try to make sure her precious child would lead as normal a life as possible.
Some things helped, others didn’t and eventually Robyn came to accept that Georgia would remain as she was when I met her- unable to hug her mother or show any physical affection, and with anxiety, a speech disability and introversion that would keep her quite marginalized.
AND THEN Robyn found something quite special, an alternative touch and sound therapy, offered by Innersound, that very quickly changed her daughter. Georgia began to have much more confidence, less anxiety, and she became much more sociable. She started to come out of her shell and became interested in the outside world. She began to play with and hug the family pet dog; before treatment she always used to run away from the dog. She began to ask Robyn questions about her day and most importantly to show her mother physical affection. For a mother to have daughter that has never expressed physical affection, to suddenly do that- you don't know what that means. And Georgia continues to improve with the treatments. In fact Robyn herself uses the treatment which helps her deal with her stress and anxiety- she has called it quite literally a lifesaver.
Your giving will allow Georgia to continue having this treatment, and her progress and success will help give much exposure to this treatment in Australia, so that many can experience the benefits.
Please help my friend Robyn Di Laudo, her daughter Georgia and so many others
