I have been to the Atlantic ocean 2 times, and I remember the sounds it made. The immense roar is like no other sound I've ever heard. I remember sitting on rocks at the shoreline and trying to block out everything behind me, all the people and the land, and trying to feel as though it were the ocean and me, and nothing else. Of all the experiences I have had in nature, this is the one I keep wanting to go back to.

My husband is no longer able to travel due to a disability, and although I had temporarily thought that meant I could not either, I no longer feel that way. I want to go to the Atlantic once more, and take my son, his wife, and my daughter and niece with me to share the dream with them. I would love to rent a cottage on the shore for the 5 of us. Since I am turning 50 years old this year, I thought this would be a very special way of marking and honoring this milestone. It may seem selfish to ask for something like this, and to ask others to help fund it, but I have learned that sometimes selfish can be a good thing.
